$97 and no real documentation?

arrggghhh

I have just spent $97 on a product, if it does what it says on the box it will save me at least a hour a day and that in itself is worth and more.

I hand over my card details, and get to a membership page, I sign up and get taken to a download page.

I download the zips, unzip them and find the readme.pdf (they didn’t even bother putting page numbers on it)..

Installation is explained (not very well , and I have seen questions in the forum that could and should have been answered in the pdf)..

I looked for some videos.. they all say Coming soon (this product has been around a year?)

The help page mentions a holiday that is being taken in March-April..

Now I am sure that there are people out there who will be critical of some of my products, I am not saying I am perfect in any way, but flipping heck this is just ridiculous..

How much time do I spend getting it working?

This is part of why I tend to sell desktop tools rather than scripts, different types of php and all sorts of add ons can make scripts problematic..

deep breath paul.. you can do it.

Ok rant over for today..

update… 25th June

Well they have got it working finally – the first time it was “fixed” they didn’t actually check it was fixed..

So another 36 hours went by and now it does work sort of.. more on the sort of bit another day..

Just to make it better for me though.. when they “fixed” it they have managed to break everything else on the domain (my own fault for putting their software on the same domain as something else I know) so now I am having to contact the server admin people and see if they can help me.

This is the stuff that makes working online so hard, and I do think that server side tools are a lot harder to get working in general than desktop tools..

I am not going to out the software as a couple of people have asked as it just doesn’t feel right… yet..

    Hey Paul,

Did this post give you a product idea?

You did not mention the name of the script but I know which one it is. I also bought it a while back but haven’t tried to install it yet. If you can create a desktop version you’ll probably have a market for it. If you are developing one please let me know.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jael

They have got it working for me now (i think) but the first time they “fixed” it they clearly didn’t test it as there was a problem straight away.

I was thinking of discussing a JV with them as I have a product coming out which I think would be a good match to theirs, but now I am in 2 minds about even contacting them.

It is a possibility that I may look at doing a desktop tool to fix this problem..
    hmm..
