Everyone and their uncle talks about having your own mailing list, build a list and you will make a gazillion dollars easily.
What they never seem to tell you about is the work involved and I am not refering to building the list. There are many ways to build a list and of course all of them involve some level of work.
Once you accept that you will have to do some work to get people onto your list you are half way to success, then all you need to do is write emails that they will read and write them in such a way that people will click on the links.
You can’t send to many emails or people will ubsub, but if you don’t send enough to keep you in their mind then that causes them to unsub as well.
Now I don’t mind when people unsub, you chose to subscribe and you can choose to unsubscribe.
What I find wearing is that when I send a email out I usually get
-Someone telling me I added their email addy to my list and that I am some level of spammer (sometimes they question my parentage as well), mainly because they forgot they added themselves and heaven forbid it be their mistake rather than mine.
- Some unsubs where they put a nasty message in
- Some unsubs where people say they have changed direction
- Some people asking for help with another product, sometimes this won’t even be a product of mine!
- Sales!
Now I am not sure if anyone knows this but I actually do this stuff so I can feed my self and my family, trust me when I win the lotto I will not spend a moment more than I have to away from my family (well as long as it isn’t $100 I win).
The sales put me on a high, then the nasty unsubs bring me down, the emails asking for help with someone elses product make me wonder what the heck is going on out there.
Take all this into account when you start a mailing list, a mate of mine suggested I should get someone to screen all my emails during launches so I don’t partake of the emotional roller coaster.
My feeling is that we must celebrate every sale, it is the greatest compliment when someone gets their hard earned cash out of their pocket, and realize that the people who are nasty must have other problems going on in there life.
Ok time to write a email to my list..We have less than 24 hours till WordPress Easy Ads goes up in price so I need to let them know that.
