What is web 2.0, where do I find out about it, how do I use it… and about a million other questions..

Up and coming..

Twitter – This is from the same lady who showed us how to use Squidoo, Tiffany Dow really knows her stuff and is becoming a web 2.0 guru (sorry to use that rude word Tiff)

Launchtags – This is very very early stage and I think there is some serious potential here, I have spoken to one of the founders (well by email) and they seem very open to suggestions and making it work.

Takkle – This is a social networking site aimed at high school students, alumni and pretty much anyone interested in school sports – They are very new, and I think there is a great market place there. High school kids do have disposable income and are the trend setters.

If you want to get a update on web 2.0 sites then you must go to Michelle McPherson’s site
Social Media Daily and sign up, she has collected information on loads of places where you can get links from.
Michelle knows her Onions (a very English expression there..lol) and the report is short and to the point.

I don’t think that social networking is a cure to all ills, but I do think that we should all be ducking and diving , getting links from everywhere we can and if you are looking to brand yourself then all exposure is good exposure.

Kathy always laughs at me when she finds me poring over my AWstats, they show how many visitors I have had and where they have come from..

I tend to follow some of the links to see whats on the other end.. now that isn’t always possible as some of the links are from private forums.. so Hi to anyone coming from one of them..

Following the links is usually a bit of fun for me but once in a while I find something interesting..

Netvibes is one of those occassions

Now some will say oh it is just a copy of….

Maybe.. and I haven’t used it yet, I only saw it last night but I think it has some useful stuff there and if it saves time for you then it has to be worth looking at surely..

Sorry for the short post today .. but I bent my little finger back a couple of days ago and it still hurts to type..

Paul what are you yammering on about…

I mentioned Squidoo a few days ago, easy to use, well interlinked and the pages “lenses” seem to be ranking well in all the search engines. The amount of direct traffic you get won’t necessarily be huge but it is definitely worth having your own lense..

Someone mentioned that it all just looked like a blog to them, and then we discussed squid and calamari and then I wondered if there are squid farmers?

Now I don’t know if there are squid farms, but my brain went

squiddo.. blog.. blog farms…. Squidoo farms?

This is a new idea to me so I am just throwing it out here for you to mull over and run with if you fancy it.

Say your money site is about Dogs..

big dogs, small dogs, Labradors, beagles, Irish wolf hounds

Instead of making one lense about dogs, why not make one lense that corresponds to each page or section of your site?

Have each one with a link back to the relevant section of your site or even have them all link back to your home page.

Before you ask I don’t have any way of automating this, you will have to do good old fashioned work (sorry).

Sort of like a mini blog farm or maybe a mini net..

And what about maybe a few lenses pointing towards one major lense?

I should also mention that it is worth joining some relevant groups on squidoo as that helps you climb up the ranks as well.

So could you farm squid for profit?

In the 3 months I think I have seen more info about myspace than ever before, books, reports, tools, secret ways of doing this that and the other.

It looks like myspace may finally have got sick of it all

My Space are suing a spammer

Not that this should (or will) stop people looking at myspace, but maybe we should be looking further afield..

What about other social networking sites , if you have a product about dogs, go and do some research and find social networking sites related to dogs.

Say you find a social networking site that is aimed at hairdressers..

There is a good chance that they would be largely female and youngish, so find something that they are interested in and guide them in its direction.

I think people will carry on making large amounts of money with myspace, but like everything it isn’t as easy as it was.. But isn’t that what makes it fun?

I am busy working on some videos and information showing you how you can have your own web 2.0 site!
