Mining Your Stats For Free

9

There is so much talk about this keyword tool and that keyword tool, getting info from here there and everywhere that we often ignore the data that we are collecting every day.

Once you have built a site and it has started getting traffic I can almost guarantee that it will get traffic from keywords and phrases that you would never have thought of.

Sometimes your site will even rank highly for these long tail keyword phrases without you even thinking about it.

So what can you do with that info?

Well you can take that data, see how you rank for the terms that people are using to find your site and possibly with just a little nudge you can increase your ranking and your traffic.

These terms are gold, why, well because you know people are definitely searching for them and they are also clicking through from the search engines.

I made a short video showing how I use a free firefox plugin to sort the info. You may need to turn the sound up.

Hope you find it useful, the place to get the plugin is

    Hi Paul,

That’s a very cool method, finding the key phrases that you rank for and ( rather than investing time on the lame ducks) tweaking and promoting those that are hovering near to page one already.

    Nice one!,

PS Is that ‘go get a gravatar’ link above the comments box via a plugin?

Great stuff Paul. Especially helpful when you find a keyword that is in the number one page. The ratio from being number 1 which can get over 40% of the whole page traffic and on the other hand being number 10 which gets only 3%. Gives an incentive to work on that particular keyword to push it up further and grab the extra traffic.

Your videos are informational, but always difficult to hear. I turned this one up all the way and still could not hear enough for it to make sense.

  5. Hi Paul,

Awesome vid. Thanks for the useful tip. I’ll be sure to spread the word about this. I recently found that one of my sites had moved up in rankings from 15 to number 4. Very cool stuff. Looking forward to more vids.

    Glad you like it.

The first person who I showed it to, ran his keywords through the system and was at number 8 for a keyword he had no idea about.

Some bookmarking has been done and he is now at 4, he is having articles written and is going to push hard for the top 3 and ideally the number one spot.

  7. Yes, very good tool Paul and thanks for putting together this video. Gracias!

    That’s brilliant, Paul. Thank you.

Just a tip to save some effort: I pasted the list into Excel using “paste special –> unicode text” and was able to avoid the task of deleting the extraneous info.
