Over the last month I have been hearing more and more people talk about making money by going round to offline business people and offering to build them websites.
The business people then just cowtow at your feet and pay you money.
Why is this big news?
Isn’t this common sense, heck I have stopped telling people I meet that I build websites because I got so sick of them pushing business cards onto me and asking me to call them. It was becoming a pain to tell them I wasn’t interested and some of them get offended.
You can go out to your local business park and knock on doors and get some business, everyone is right about that.
But no one ever mentions the ones who say no thanks, the ones who dont give you the time of day. Maybe no one apart from me has ever been rejected while trying to sell something?
I know that the face to face rejection really hit me hard when I was selling advertising face to face, it hit me so hard I went to work on the phones which I loved.
If you do decide that you can build a site, get it traffic and do all the other services that will make you extra money month in and month out then why not treat it like you would a online business venture.
Online
I sell to internet marketers, so I post in the warrior forum and other places where they hang out.
Offline
Where do small business people hang out? I am talking about the owners not their staff?
Online
You give out free copies to well known people for review
Offline
Offer to build a site for a local charity event
Online many people operate in a very lazy way, heck I bet a lot of us don’t even put anything other than a Tshirt and shorts on for days at a time, this won’t work if you are dealing with a “proper” business.
If someone rents a store and buys inventory you can be pretty sure they have dropped $20K+ just to open the door, and a lot of them will have mortgaged their house to borrow that money so they have a lot at stake. They don’t want to hand over a $1k deposit, or even a $500 one, to some guy who rolls up on his skateboard, takes his ipod out of his ear and offers to do them a deal.
If you are building a business then being the man who brings the offline world online is a good way to go, if you are making money on the side and may or may not be doing this in a year then leave it to people who will always be around and who will not dump the businessman in it.
Oh and just to show how much money there is in it, I know someone whose company won’t build you a site for less than 15 thousand pounds (that’s about $30k) and they are charging £500 a day for a seo consult.
Their main problem?
They just had someone drop £250,000 on them as a adwords budget, and are throwing £30k in for the company to manage it.
That basically means that their one man seo dept is unable to now take on any more clients, so they are having to find a new person to employ.
The work is out there
Getting it is doable
Turning $$ into $$$,$$$ is another game altogether..
