Today is Monday and you know what that means.. two days till thanksgiving and three days till the Day After Thanksgiving Sales .
Once the big sales weekend is over there will be a mad rush for all things Christmas. Some people will be having a ok Christmas, some people will have a better Christmas than last year but I think a lot of people will be worrying whether they will have a job to go back to in the New Year and if they do will the job be as good as the one they had previously?
Sorry to bring some doom and gloom but thats the way it is, my question to you is What are you doing to make sure that 2009 is a bigger and better year than 2008 has been?
Here are some of the things I am doing and some of the things others have suggested.
- Clear a space on your whiteboard or on your pad so you can write your lists down and keep them somewhere.
- Make 2 lists 2008 and 2009, so you know what you are doing now and what you can do later
- Clean up! I know time is a valuable commodity but use it to clear stuff up on your desk and around your desk. Throw away all the empty envelopes you have (after copying down the million maker idea you scribbled on the back of them.
- Get rid of the tub of sweets/candy/chocolate – maybe 2009 will be a good year to lose that sweet tooth
So now you have a clean desk, what about cleaning up your desktop. If you dont already have one now is the time to buy an external hard drive. You should be using an external hard drive for backing up your system, I also put projects on there that I have finished, i put the zips of software or books I buy onto my external hd as well. It frees up space on my pc desktop.
Clean your hosting account as well, if you are anything like me you have domains that you don’t always renew but you haven’t quite got round to deleting the hosting account from your server. If you have more than one hosting account, now is the time to check that you actually need them, recently I found an account which only had one live site on. I was paying $120 a year to host one domain!
Clean Your Mind – Stop worrying about everything you read on some forum or another, stop worrying that you missed the latest must have release of the latest $497 bit of software. Don’t let the latest “must do” technique fill your mind, go with what you knows works and run your own tests on each new idea.
I think that’s enough to keep you busy for a day or two.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Thanksgiving 2008 Sale , when your wife/husband/partner says “I am going to the sales to save some money” You can say “So am I” and come visit the Thanksgiving site and get a bargain.
