When is a Guarantee not really what it seems?

I was looking at a sales page today, just like you I get lots of emails recommending this that and the other.

I came across one today which I thought had a clever idea, as you are reading the page it has a drop in box and if you sign up for his list he will send you a $10 coupon code so his product is $37 instead of $47.

I am sure that gets him a fair few extra sign ups and I think it is a idea that I may use myself in the future.

However when I got down to the Guarantee box, he has a very nice looking box with all this lovely writing, “100% Guarantee” in huge writing. I actually read the guarantee and in fact I had to read it twice.

“Just send your request in writing and you will receive a full refund”

I found that a real strange criteria, but maybe it would stop the serial refunders out there.
If you buy something online should you be able to get a refund online or is it ok for the seller to put any criteria they wish on the refund request?
